The work of artists
Einar and Jamex de la Torre
The brothers, who describe themselves as “Mexican-American bicultural artists” reside in both San Diego and San Antonio de las Minas and are originally from Guadalajara, Mexico.
Einar and Jamex de la Torre create a marriage of elaborate hand-blown and flame-worked glass with simple found objects including old tires, plastic coins and beads. These contrasting materials reflect the paradox of their Mexican-American heritage and culture.
Their work will be exhibited with the current show in the downstairs gallery, “The Border in Painting, Sculpture and Photography,” and will be on view through June 1.
Two large-scale pieces will be featured concurrently at the El Paso Museum of Art. These exhibits mark the first the De la Torre brothers have had in El Paso.
IN ADDITION
Ten Years on the Trail of a Colossus:
The Creation of El Paso’s Equestrian Monument
Nicholas P. Houser will present a brown bag luncheon talk at noon, Thursday, April 26 in the upstairs gallery.
