Aaron Karp creates dazzling acrylic paintings built of myriad swipes of color upon swipes of color which eventually create a "visual battle between an illusionistic space that contains solid-looking forms and a shimmering surface pattern."
The artist writes that "Layering itself makes up the central metaphor in my work. The work is about concealing and revealing. It is about the fracturing of color and space, about looking at and into something to extract information and find meaning."
The artist's work is in many corporate and public collections. Karp received his B.A. from State University of New York at Buffalo and his M.F.A. from Indiana University. He currently makes his home in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
