Marc Pachter

Marc Pachter will be discussing the National Portrait Gallery’s portrait competition and the effort to reinvigorate the art of portraiture. Adair Margo Gallery’s current exhibit, “Rostros de Niños,” a series of portraits by Rosario Ponte, will serve as the setting for the talk. The talk is free and refreshments will be provided.

Marc Pachter will speak Wednesday, October 10, 2007, from 5:00-7:00 p.m., at the Adair Margo Gallery located at 415 East Yandell El Paso, Texas 79902.

The President’s Committee on the Arts and the Humanities and The City of El Paso Museums and Cultural Affairs Department (MCAD) invite you to an Art Talk with Director of the National Portrait Gallery, Washington, D.C. As part of MCAD’s Art Talk series which has brought nationally art recognized luminaries in art to El Paso, MCAD and Adair Margo, Chairman for President’s Committee on the Arts and the Humanities, welcome Mr. Pachter.

Bio: Marc Pachter
Director, National Portrait Gallery

Appointed in July 2000, Marc Pachter directs the National Portrait Gallery. From November 2001 until January 2003, he also directed the National Museum of American History—the first person to lead two Smithsonian museums at the same time. Highlights of Pachter’s tenure at the National Portrait Gallery have been ensuring that Gilbert Stuart’s “Lansdowne” portrait of George Washington remains on permanent display by raising $30 million; the establishment of an awards program to honor service to and portrayal of the presidency; the creation of the first national portrait competition, and the reinstallation of the National Portrait Gallery through the restoration of its National Historic Landmark building.
