Susan Amstater, a native of El Paso, Texas attended the Otis Art Institute and UCLA. Her brightly colored acrylic landscapes have been described as "compositions, woven of opposing colors, [which] elicit both excitement and curiosity."

Amstater's work has been exhibited widely in the West and is included in the permanent collection of the El Paso Museum of Art. Her painting, Rio Grande Valley Farmlands, was featured on the Santa Fe Opera poster in 1999.
